Helping Children Stay Well
In 2006, La Clínica provided immunizations of 99% of its child patients, well above the national average of 70%.
Effective Disease Prevention
As a result of La Clínica’s Advancing Diabetes Self-Management program, the average participating patient reduced their hemoglobin A1c by one point, which significantly decreases complications of diabetes.
Role Model in Medicine
Medical residents often get their first impression of medicine and their first model of quality care from doctors during their residency. Every year, pediatric residents from Children’s Hospital Oakland demonstrate the importance of this first medical experience by awarding the Appreciation Award for Excellence in Pediatrics to a community pediatrician. Traditionally, one doctor is chosen for exemplary patient care, resident training and service to the community. But, because La Clínica’s Pediatric doctors work as a strong cohesive team, the entire department was awarded! This is the second time this honor has been bestowed upon La Clínica’s pediatricians. The Pediatrics department also received the Appreciation Award in 1999.
The Very Best
Every year, Best Doctors, Inc. surveys more than 50,000 doctors nationwide to generate a peer-review evaluation of the medical profession by asking one question: “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, whom would you choose?” In the area of Pediatrics, doctors surveyed in the East Bay chose La Clínica’s Dr. James Eitel as the doctor to whom they would take their children for care. Dr. Eitel is one of 122 doctors selected in the East Bay and among four percent of doctors chosen nationwide.
Recognition by Congress
Among the many awards that Chief Executive Jane Garcia received last year was a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition signed by Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. Jane Garcia was recognized for “Outstanding and Invaluable Service to the Community.”
