Young people who are tired, sick, pregnant, suffering from chronic illness, depression or anxiety are less likely to be successful in school or in life. Although adolescence is an ideal time to promote health and well-being, teens are the least likely of any age group to seek traditional health care services. Moreover, many low-income teens and youth do not get the health care they need because they do not have health insurance or the means to pay for medical services.
To help address this need, La Clínica provides accessible and affordable health care to children and teens from low-income communities of the East Bay. Among the many services we provide are regular check-ups, immunizations, physical exams, lab tests including TB skin testing, and treatment for acute and chronic illness. We also offer confidential services for teenagers such as pregnancy testing and prenatal care; suicide prevention and counseling; contraception; pregnancy options counseling; and sexually transmitted diseases prevention, detection and treatment, including confidential and anonymous HIV testing. Our social workers and counselors provide individual, group and couples counseling, and assistance with school, housing, emergency food and legal issues.
La Clínica offers most of these services at the following sites:
The scope of services differs slightly by site. Prenatal care is provided only at Clínica Alta Vista, and the Hawthorne site provides fewer confidential services.
