Health Education Services - Preventive Medicine

Good health is often the result of good habits. Regular exercise and sound nutrition, coupled with medical check-ups, can mean the difference between strength and vitality and disabling illness. Healthy lifestyle habits can prevent or mitigate such illnesses as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure-illnesses which disproportionately affect low-income minorities.

At La Clínica de La Raza, we promote healthy habits through our preventive medicine services. These services show up in many ways at La Clínica's. For instance, our health educators counsel family members on good eating and exercise habits. Our doctors screen all patients for chronic illness, hypertension, and heart disease, and follow-up with regular visits and medication to control or prevent the illness. Our promotores (health promoters) meet with our patients in the community to promote good health by offering an array of services and activities. They include helping patients manage their chronic illness, promoting exercise with regular walks, going grocery shopping together to encourage nourishing cooking, and other activities that promote healthy living.

As seen by the availability of many or all of these services at the following sites, preventive medicine is a top priority for La Clínica.
